- - [1] Cards Against Humanity | 10 Days or Whatever of Kwanzaa | Day 1 Review - -

A few weeks ago I put up a post on Facebook letting you guys know that Cards Against Humanity, the beloved/hated mature and satirical card game, was organizing their second ever Holiday Bulls--t campaign. Everyone who was signed up on their mailing list got an email about it, but I hope that those of you who don't receive CAH emails got a chance to sign up as well.

The campaign concept is simple - you hand over $15 ($25 for Canadians) to CAH and get sent 10 little mystery gifts for the "10 days or whatever of Kwanzaa." I didn't participate last year, but I did check out the reviews that were available online and seeing how cool and unique the little gifts were, I decided to sign up. I also signed up Andrew for this so that we could do something different this year.

Read more after the jump!

Over 230,000 people signed up to receive 10 mystery gifts, and just as with last year CAH has supposedly hidden a really difficult puzzle somewhere amongst these gifts. If you want to follow along with the progress of the puzzle, you can check out the official page for it here.

In the meantime, while the page is being updated, I thought it would be fun to do little reviews for the gifts as they arrive at my doorstep.

Without further ado, here's what I got  for Day 1:

...a beautifully-coloured envelope!

It definitely stood out from the usual white-envelope mail. As you can see, the scene is a glimpse into Santa's workshop where the elves are making Christmas toys for the children.

Maybe I'm just over-analyzing it, but there's something off about the scene. For a happy time no one is really smiling; Santa Claus looks pretty serious (I guess there IS lots of work for everyone to do); and the table at the back with the severed doll-limbs looks pretty creepy. Hmm.

In any case, here are the contents of the envelope:

It looks like everyone got a black card (the "question" card) and a white card for Day 1 - both of which are personalized! Neat, huh? I saw that last year CAH sent out white cards with people's names on them, which I thought was pretty awesome, so I'm glad that they followed the same pattern this year.

However, unlike last year, there was also a black card included this time around, which features a morbid quote that one would find on a tombstone. Creepy and uncomfortable? Definitely! But I guess that's to be expected from CAH, who don't shy away from taboo subjects in their card game.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to using these cards in the game!

There was also a note included in the envelope that said the following:

"Day One.

Thank you for subscribing to Cards Against Humanity's Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa. Over the next few weeks we'll be sending you nine (or whatever) more gifts. Please keep in mind that we're relying on USPS during the busiest time of the year, and things might get weird. It's possible two gifts will come at once. It's possible a gift will come a few days late, or out of order. It's possible that a fatigued postal worker will roll his truck directly into your house. Don't panic. We think you'll receive all of your gifts before the end of Kwanzaa, and if something goes wrong, you can email us at mail@cardsagainsthumanity.com. Follow along online at CAH.io/kwanzaa if you wish.

We've also hidden a puzzle in the Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa. The puzzle is hard, and you may need to collaborate with others online in order to solve all the steps. To get the solution, you won't need to post anyone's personal details, stalk us, hack our website, or interfere with other solvers. If you do any of those things, we'll disqualify you. There's a large, unwieldy prize awaiting the first person or team to find the solution, but there's also a catch: the prize is hidden. Of course, you'll know how to locate and unlock it when you've solved the puzzle. You can follow any updates we post on the puzzle online at CAH.io/kwanzaa. Happy hunting, and from all of us here at Cards Against Humanity, go away. Ho, ho!"

I have no clue where to even start with the puzzle, but maybe once the Day Two envelope arrives things will be clearer. Until then, have a wonderful day!
Thanks for reading!

PS: Kwanzaa is a 7 day celebration.
